I have a quick question. I've been doing alot of research on here and i've read alot of questionable things about auralex. A friend of mine had a small studio that he's no longer going to pursue and has a few of these auralex things he'd give me for basically nothing. It's 150 bucks for some monitor pads and a max wall 420

found a link for the wall here

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MaxWall/

Price wise it is in my budget and i'll admit i'm basically a total amateur as far as acoustic treatment goes. Money wise i like not having to spend a ton and i'm in a small room right now until i purchase a house (why i was hoping to get off cheap for now) . The room i'm in is 12 x 11 (i thought that was odd but i measured twice) and is basically just square not much else but a doorway in the one corner and a window on the back wall.

Just curious about any insights you guys might have , i'll obviously do alot more research was just hoping for some direction.

So i guess the question is if it is even worth 150 he's charging?

Thanks so much in advance.

take care

Price wise I can't help you because I'm in Australia and what we pay for things is way out of whack with you guys.
Product wise, these walls will help somewhat with your stereo imaging and will help tame those first reflections in your mix position. You will however need to follow up to complete the treatments in your room with some bass trapping!

This auralex will not help you to tame the lows in your room, will serve only to the purpose that Gorty saids.

With less than R$ 700 in Brazil (aprox U$300) I bought 9 2' x 4' 4" rockwoll to the corners bass traps (have to be minimun 4" to a good absortion of extreme lows) and material to make 2 panel traps to absorve 50/200 hz frequencies (1/4 plywood , 1" rockwool , pine , glue ...). A lot of work to do these panels:eek:, but great results after. I´m planning to make more 2.

My room is almost same size (13x11, "difficult to cure" on lows)and even with the treatment I´m cutting ~125 hz with a parametric eq.

Thanks so much guys. So bass traps seems to be the way to go next after this first step. Glad this forum exists for sure i'm quite clueless when it comes to this stuff (among many many other things). I really appreciate the advice.

Thanks again

Take care
