Audix OM6

i just got an Audix OM6 microphone....just wondering if anyone else here has one or has used one...it is suppose to be a vocal microphone, but when used for vocals, they come out sounding very flat, or thick, with little mid-high range. i am using a Fostex 4track recorder as my pre-amp....should i get a pre-amp specifically for vocals/microphones or isn't there a great difference? curious...thanks a lot.

I don't know if I can help or not, but how far are you from the mic?

I think you'll find the tones change a lot depending on distance, particularly at close (vocal) distances. Try recording something where you are always 4 or more from the mic, then some where you are always closer than 2" and compare these and report back (or maybe someone else will have something better to try by then.)
