Okay, so after my I5 - 57 comparison thread on distorted guitar, I have been itching to try my I5 on snare drum. I said I would post a sample, and I recorded this band over the weekend and here is a track that came of that. I'm really digging the snare sound from this mic. Sorry I don't have a 57 track to compare it with.....this is the best I can do.

Anyway, the guitar track is just a shitty guide track that will be redone later, but I left it in there so it sounded more like a song. Also there is not much of any processing or mixing done with this yet, it's a really rough track. I just wanted to give a sample of the snare drum sound.

I am a big fan of the i5 as I think it can certainly compete and holds it's own in comparison to the 57. While the the two have suprisingly different sounds they both totally work well. I guess it's just a matter of what flavor to choose from at the time you need it. I think the i5 in this track sounds great but needs some adjustments (like you said). Good work.

Thanks ;)

The i5 definitely fits more here than a 57, or at least what I think a 57 would sound like from just hearing this track. Pretty well done recording for a completely rough mix. Good tight sound from the players too. Just wondering, what mix did you use on bass drum.

I'm assuming you are just refering to what processing is done on the bass drum?
The bass drum is triggered, the rest of the drums are mic'd normally.

Thanks for the comments.
