Audiphile 2496 (does midi play on this??)

I have no external midi gear..
However i've got plenty of midi files.
They will not play on the Audiophile 2496..
there is no sound at all..
Does anyone know about these little cards???
I've contacted M-audio but still waiting for a reply

Like most better soundcards, there is no MIDI synth on the Audiophile like there usually is on consumer cards.

There are, however, such things as softsynths that run on the computer and respond to MIDI messages internally, with their output sent through the soundcard's audio stream.

Most of these run as plug-in instruments within recording applications. Those that do are of two basic types -- VST and DirectX. Cubase hosts VST synths (abbreviated VSTi for VST instruments); SONAR hosts DirectX synths (abbreviated DXi for DirextX instruments).
