Can someone explain the driver settings for the 2496 I should use to record in MIDI?
As a side note: I'm using Magix as my recording software, which comes with 2 programs: Audio Studio, and Midi Studio. I am hoping to run both programs at once. I believe its just a matter of choosing the right drivers. I also have ACID and Soundforge, but I"m guessing that the settings would be the same.
Any help is appreciated. Oh the joy!

There are no driver settings pertaining to midi. There is just an input and an output to connect midi gear such as a keyboard/synth. You select the input to record into a midi track, and select a midi device for the tracks playback - this is either a software synth/sampler or a hardware midi device connected to the cards midi out.

The Audiophile, and all pro/semipro cards do not have midi sounds of their own like a Soundblaster does.

... part II...

I don't think you need to run both parts of Music Studio at the same time, for one thing, they would not be in sync.

Midi Studio is a cut-down Logic Audio - it can do Audio recording too, despite its name. I haven't used the program for some time but I believe it now has some plug-in software synths.

Audio Studio is a cut-down Samplitude. I believe you can use this as an Audio only Multitracker, an audio editor or Audio CD mastering/creation tool.

If you must have midi, it would seem the plan to record and mix in midi studio and then finish of the stereo track in Audio Studio. Then again, I know quite a few people give up with the complexity of Midi Studio and just record straight audio and mix in Audio studio - but, I haven't tried the program for a long time. It does seem very good value.
Good luck!

Thanks Jim

I think I understand.
I've been able to record the keyboard in MIDI studio, then bounce the track(s) to Audio studio where I do most of my recording and mixing. In the end, it's just another wav file, so I guess I'm not really conserving bytes like I thought I would, though it's still good to have access to all the sounds that the keyboard has...a little violin here, some choir there, whatever.
I guess at some point, I could attempt a whole tune in MIDI...but, I'm a guitar player!
Anyway, thanks for the help and your time.-J ;)
Meeting adjourned. The bar is open!
