Hello-

I am having problems installing a M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 card into a Compaq AP240 workstation running Win2K Pro and 768 mg Ram and would appreciate any assistance more seasoned users can offer.

After confirming previous drivers are removed, I insert card into open PCI slot ** the last open PCI slot - 1384 TI Firewire, Adaptec 2940 uw, Audiophile, Adaptec 2940 A, Intel 10/100 NIC cards already onBoard** Boot up and card is recognized as designed. Using most recent drivers, Delta_wdm_510027.EXE, I load as directed from A: drive and reboot as requested to complete install.

Bam..lock up before getting into Windows. Seems that while doing a port scan, BIOS doesn't like card or slot it's in...? I don't even get to where SCSI drives are located... Are cards touchy as to what PCI slot it is installed into?

I am new to recording but am a software developer by trade so not scared of box- lol. Install seemed very straight forward am I missing something? Should I just juggle card order?

Thanks for your help.

Yeah, juggling would be a good start.
Start with removing all the PCI cards except the Audiophile. If the Audiophile works, it likely is an irq sharing issue. Then put the other cards back in one by one. It basically is a puzzle. Your computer is pretty jammed up with extras and that can cause such problems.
You can also tell Windows to explicitely assign irqs to certain pci devices. Just try to find out which devices will work with eachother on one irq.
If you have things like serial ports or usb interfaces on the motherboard that you don't use, disable them in the bios.

My Solution

Christiaan had some good advice. Here is what I did to alleviate the problem with Windows XP and Audiophile bumping heads. I uninstalled all of the drivers of for the Audiophile 2496. I switched the Audiophile 2496 to a different PCI slot then reinstalled the card using the latest drivers from Midiman.net. You should go there first after uninstalling your drivers from your computer and download the latest driver and create a folder for it. Re-install the Audiophile card using that folder only and not the CD. If you need further details I can email them to you. After the Audiophile glitch episode everything worked fine. I also can, maybe, answer a few other questions if you have them.
