Does anyone have any information on the Audiophile USB?

At present I use a Dell Pentium 4--2.4 G processor--60 G HD
256 Mb RAM

Will this get me into the world of computer recording?
I now have a Tascam 424 MK III analog machine.
Do I need a mixer?
Is it worth 250.00?

The sites I've visited only tell you the technical terms. I need the laymens terms for "Will this work on my machine?"

Please keep in mind that I now have just the regular soundblaster soundcard. (16 Bit I believe)

Thank you

Denver

As long as you have a USB port...then yes.
The AP USB has 2 analog ins and outs.
You will only need a mixer if you intend to record more than 2 tracks simultaneously.

If you are not using a laptop, USB is a waste of money. Just buy the regular Audiophile for $100 less.

USB does not perform as well as PCI.

And remember that the audiophile has NO MICPRE's! So you'll need to buy micpre's too if you want to record using mics.

It allows you to record 4 channels at once if you use external convertors. I just got the Audiophile USB for my laptop, but I haven't had the time to use it in all it's glory. All I can tell you now is the playing stuff back on headphones sounds ok. :)

Thank you for this input.

Stealth..I plan on recording drums so I will need 4 inputs.
Will the the AP 2496 accomodate me on this?

Brz...I'll take your advice and stay clear of a USB

Roel..Thank you for your personal experience with a USB. THAT really helps!

Is a 2496 worth investing into?
Or should I go with a Delta?
If so, where can I buy one?

For recording drums, 4 channels is the absolute minimum. I prefer 8 channels...

I have my VS1880 for recording mostly. The audiophile is for doing stereo-live recordings and for boucing tracks digitally between my VS and the laptop. And for doing some mastering on the laptop etc... or maybe some overdubs on the laptop after doing most of the recording with the VS...

I kind of wonder if the Audiophile takes advantage of the fact that the converters are outboard opposed to the PCI version. Less interference and all of that..

The 4 inputs on the AP are 2 analog and 2 digital.
You might wanna go with a 66 or 1010.

Your best price may be on ebay.
