Hello. I just installed my Audiophile 2496 on my machine and the it keeps giving troubles that I need help with.

At any given point (within a few hours) when I am at my computer it just stops giving sound (sometimes after some distorted output sounds).
After that programs using sound will say there is a driver problem or that no sound can be played or some 'General Error'. Also for those who know the card when this occurs and I would open the M-audio-controlpanel all fields are blank.

To get my sound back at that time I can do the following:

1. Turn the (USB) audiophile off and on
2. Pull out the USB plug and wait and put it back in
3. Reboot my computer

Help me!!!!
Give me a hint!!

Yours sincerely,

Elean

Oh... one more thing. I use an illigal crack/copy of Windows XP pro (I could download SP1 but other updates wont be allowed). Since that is the only thing I know i am doing wrong (mea culpa for that) in the whole story I thought the problem might lie there but it seems highly illogical.

Well..... there's really no point troubleshooting anything until you get your system running properly with a stable OS.

Cracked programs, including OS's, can DEFINITELY be the cause of instability and countless problems -- in fact, it's LIKELY.......

Admitting you use cracked/Warez software isn't the best way to make new friends here either.

You can get a ligit OEM version of Window XP home at New Egg for less than $100. That not an upgrade- its a full version

Ok, ok, ok

I definitely get your point. Well, then I'll have to be saving some money again and repost the question if necesary when I am using a legitimate copy of Windows. Maybe until that time does anyone know where to get a Linux driver for the audiophile USB?
