Hi,
I recently got an audiophile 2496 soundcard on ebay and installed it in my computer. after the hardware installation and downloading from the driver i was prompted to restart the computer. After doing so, I recieved a message stating that windows could not start due to a hardware change. I removed the hardware and windows operated fine again.
I have windows xp. According to everything I've read that should work, but I noticed in the manual that it specified windows 95,98,NT, 2000, or ME. I assume that this audiophile is not compatable with xp, although according to what I've heard it is. Can anybody help me? Thanks!!

p.s. in order to install the hardware i had to remove an existing card that was not being used for anything that I could tell (a single phone jack not for modem), i don't know if this makes a difference

One topic will suffice, no need for 3 :D

Have you tried contacting M Audio Tech Support?

The AP is compatable with XP (this is a fact)
I think XP and microsoft sometimes require authorization for hardware changes.
You may also want to download the latest XP drivers from there website.

An (or even better: my) audiophile works fine with XP.
Have you, after you removed the old card, first booted the computer up without the audiophile so XP could determine that the old card was gone? Flat out replacing the cards may have been too much to grasp.

Since you've now started up the computer with neither of them, now try it again.

I'll try it again. I tried contacting m-audio, but no response. thanks,
