I just got an audiophile 2496 from someone on Ebay and I just want to use it to mix down my mixes stereo to computer. I'm using a Fostex 812 8 bus mixer.

Here's what's happening:
Immediately when I plug my soundcard ins to the Fostex 7/8 (L/R) output bus jacks(with no signal) I hear a feedback hum through my monitors, and the input meters in n-Track show -51 decibals. When I record and playback, I hear a slight hum. When I unplug them, the hum goes away.

I also tried eliminating the mixer, by going directly out of my Joemeek Vc1q preamp(with no signal) to the soundcard, I get the same thing.

Now, when I go directly out of my drum machine to the soundcard, nothing registers on the input meter, until I actually play drum sounds (it acts the way it should). And when I record, there is total silence until the drum sound actually comes in (like it should).

So why am I getting feedback through these other (analog) devices, but not through the drum machine???

Is the card defective???

Thanks in advance.
