Hey, I've just installed my new audiophile 192 sound card and my computer seems to have some problems with it.
I installed the driver software first, then shut down and installed the card into its pci slot. boot up and install the new hardware from the the cd when prompted.
now when I restart the screen just goes black after the startup screen.
when I boot up with "last good settings" everything on the computer works fine exept the hardware isnt installed.
I have a cheap soundblaster already installed, could multiple sound cards be the problem?
I really dont know much about this kinda shit so any help would be great.
Thanks.

Maybe this will work?

Go into your computer's BIOS settings and shut off the IRQ for your video card. There should be an option for it. Maybe it will allow you to install the rest of the software.

I already have installed all the software. the problem is when i install all the software my computer wont fecking start up.

Do you know how to change the BIOS settings to free up some IRQs. Maybe shut off the serial, parrallel ports or any USBs you're not using. Disabling the IRQ for the VGA will still help too. That is probably the conflict. I've had the same thing happen with the screen going blank. Then after you boot up you can try and change some resource settings or just leave the VGA IRQ off. Or just take out the Blaster Card. The MIDI resources might be conflicting too. I think a SB card uses atleast 3 IRQs.

well i just tryed going into the pci/pnp settings and disabling first the vga irq and then the usb as well. still no luck. is this what you meant?
how can I disable the parelel ports etc...
Thanks.

Yea, that's what I meant. How about re-installing the driver with the card in the PCI slot and booting in with last good settings? I've never heard of installing the drivers before putting in the card... not usually anyway.

Already tryed it. they say to install the drivers first in the manual to (I'd never heard of it either)

Well, if you want to dissable the other ports that's under integrated chipset features usually. Another thing you can try is a different PCI slot. It might tell in you motherboard manual which slots share IRQ and stuff.

well I just tried dissableing the ports, vga and usb. I tried using a different pci slot, i tried taking out the soundblaster and putting the audiophile in that slot. none of this does a thing. I'm starting to get really pissed. I got this new soundcard I want to use (have band practice today) and the godamn thing not only wont work but wont let my computer work when its installed. could there be a deffect in the card or something?
thanks for all the help.

oh yeah, my motherboard has built in soundcard/midi that I've never used casue I just assumed it was crap. Could this be fucking it up?

The last thing you can do is see if they have new drivers at their site. Other than that, the software that they had you install first isn't able to set the card up in your system or it could very well be a defective card. Does your motherboard have an older version of the PCI standard, maybe? According to M-Audio, it should work with 2.1 through 2.2 and 64 bit Windows.
