AudioBuddy/Buzzy Rokit tweeter

I exchanged my BlueTube for an AudioBuddy.
The AudioBuddy sounds real nice.
But when I plug my guitar into the AudioBuddy, the tweeter in my KRK Rokit buzzes and crackles . I never had that problem with the BlueTube.

I checked the VU meters in Cakewalk, and the signal is near perfect: it's almost always hot, going all the way to the end without showing any meter left, but never clipping.

So I'm wondering if I should just go by ear and assume that my signal is too hot because the tweeter is crackling a little...or should I just trust the meters in Cakewalk and assume the tweets in my Rokit just aren't handling the frequencies too well.

I think you should let your ears tell you what to do.Sometimes meters aren't as responsive as we would like,your ears are the ultimate judge of what's really going on.
 
Do you get the same buzzy sound listening in headphones? If so, my guess is that you may be overloading in the input of the Audio Buddy. Try lowering the output of your guitar or whatever device is feeding the Audio Buddy. You can then turn up the gain on the Audio Buddy to compensate for the lower input volume.

FWIW, I've got the Omni Studio, and if I don't use the -20db pad when recording a loud vocal with my MXL V67, it will overload the input of the mic preamp. The clip indicators on the Omni do not light when that happens, and I'm also not clipping in my recording software...There is just too much signal from the mic at that point, and it distorts before it even gets to any amplification in the preamp. Reducing the input to the preamp (-20 db pad) resolves this issue.

I don't think so. When I'm listening to Tool, it kinda sorta, very faintly sounds like it's crackling a little when it's a really low end part of a song. When I play something with alot of highs like Natalie Imbruglia's Torn, I don't really hear any crackling.

I'm using an Audiophile2496 card, which I am also using as my main system card. When I'm listening to music using Windows Media Player and send email or move the mouse around, there is some real faint popping and crackling in the background.

Yes, it buzzes with headphones. My Parker guitar might be pushing a decent signal into it. It probably doesn't help that I'm using a high G bass string as my low E guitar string either :-)

I won't be able to try out my SP B1 mic with it till next week, when it arrives.

Thanks. Bringing the gain down on the audio buddy clears it up. I'll just use my ears in the future to gauge how much gain to use.
