Bring Back Transfat!
I posted this in the cave also, but I'm pressed for time so I'm throwing it in here too.

I shot some video at work with a Sony Hi8 camcorder.
I want to transfer this to VHS and run a narrative over the final edited video.

How do I do this?

I've got a VCR with seperate audio/video ins.
Luckily it's close to a stereo receiver.
Got an ART pre and a SM58.

I'm thinking I can just leave the audio jack on the camcorder disconnected, and run line out of my receiver to the VCR.

Is there any way to add audio after editing the video?

Help!!! :D

This is a little off topic for this fourm. Try rec.video.production on google groups.

Anyway voice overs and background music is usually added after the video is edited and is added by/when copying the video.

uhhhh...how can it be off topic for an "other equipment and reviews" forum...thats a pretty broad topic....

I think he means that this thread won't get alot of info on this whole BBS. You don't see too many threads about video stuff here.

The only way to add audio only is to have a pro editing deck that will allow you to INSERT edit audio without effecting the control or video track.

There are Pro-sumer decks available that will do this. Panansonic makes a lot good decks.

With your current setup the only way to do it is to basicly dub the video from camcorder to vcr and hijack the audio along the way and mix in whatever you want.

The obvious downside is you have to get it right on the fly. You can bring the Camcorder audio into your comp and try to trigger prerecorded VO and music in time. It may take a couple trys but you can probably make it work if your doing something simple.
