Here are my doubts about audio tracks and how to mix them:

1. Do you apply something more than effects to an audio track. Normalize, Parametric EQ, things like that?.
2. Is there any rule about mixing. Steps to follow.
3. What should I do before burning my song to a CD. I´m talking about the audio tracks sound quality.

Some basic concepts:

What does BUS, PRE, POST, PHASE inv mean??.

Any info about will be helpful.

Takes more than me to answer these Q. I'll give a hint to some, and let other answer the others. :D

1. Yes. I do.
Pros : Reduces PC's resource on memory/CPU hunger plug ins. Reduces Drop out. Reduce latency on the monitoring. Sometimes the sound's getting fatter than when you put the FX on the bus line.

Cons : Applying an effect ( or whatever) means you change the wave data. Also called destructive editing. Once you do that and save the job, you won't be able to go back. So, before you apply, make sure to make a backup of the work. And make sure you're certain about the FX setting you wanna apply. Basic knowledge about what each plugins do to the sound and the effect chains helps you easily choose what to do. It's vary topic and subjective, couldn't be explained detail here.

3. After you are particularly happy with the mix, make sure your data at least is wave 44.1khz, 16 bit, Normalized to 0dB. One of my hints is to play the mixed wave in Winamp and see the spectral analyzer. If the wave is hot enough, then it generally a good indication as long as you hear it good (no distort/overpeak). You should see also that the sound should be wide covering whole frequency range. ;)

You could also compare your tune to others profesionally mixed in the same category...

Thanks for those tips.......but I want to know what do you do after recording all the tracks that your project might need.??? Do you proceed to mix down, apply effects, etc

after u finished tracking...play everything and begin volume leveling, panning etc. after that is done listen to it again solo out the tracks that u think might need something extra like compression, reverb etc. and make the decision either to add efx or not...then mix down..if u want to "master" your own tracks then you add compression and limiting to make it louder and other efx such as eq to clean it up..then u dither it to 16/ 44.1 if its not already at that bit and sample rate
