Audio-to-MIDI converter recommendations?

Hi...

I can sing a bass line/horn line much easier than I can play them on a midi keyboard (I'm a guitar player, not a keyboardist).

So, I'd like to find a Audio-to-MIDI converter so that I can simply sing the bass/horn lines, while listening to my song on the headphones.
Then, I'd like the audio to be converted to MIDI to run through my synthsizer(s), to get my bass/horn lines.

I think this is a great idea and I can't believe that others haven't done this...but I've not yet run across anyone who has done this.

Any suggestions??

Looking forward to -any- suggestions you can make.

Peace,

that will probably be the future...we all just hum into mikes and select the instrument...... cool.

i say that as a joke but somebody will probably tell me its already here and totally useable.

ps... try and pick up a boss dr5 it has a guitar to midi convertor...and also a keypad that mimicks a guitar fretboard but outputs midi notes........a total steal for what you want to do.

The guys over at the Reaper forums (www.reaper.fm) claim to be able to do it too.

I haven't looked into it because I use a keyboard and windsynth to input midi, but go over and check it out.

Reaper's free to try out, so you won't be out any cash.

logic can also do it

however, it can be a bit hazardous, because it sometimes is confused by extraneous noises (sniffs, burps, gravelly voice eyc)

Logic has an audio-to-midi converter

Logic has an audio-to-midi converter in its sample editor but the catch is that your audio has to basically be damn near a "pure tone" i.e an oscillator or flute - or it doesn't work.

Cakewalk SONAR 7 has a Roland plug in but the same thing holds true...complex signals simply don't work or fail to center on the intended tone.

I see stuff on the web here and there but I haven't read a single review that raves regarding accuracy and flexibility.
