I just wanted to find out what the group consensus is on this microphone. It seems that a lot of people on this forum love the AT4033/sm; AT4033/SE, but I've yet to hear any discussion about the AT4047/SV. This mic has gotten great reviews from EQ, Mix and Electronic Musician, among others, but I was wondering if anyone here has had any personal experience with this mic. I would use this mic to primarily record lead vocals, acoustic steel-string guitar and maybe an electric guitar amplifier. American Musical Supply is closing-out this mic for $399.99, that's just $100.00 dollars more then a AT4033/SE. So, is this mic for me? Or would I be better off getting the AT4050/CM5? Which is only $80.00 more then the AT4047/SV. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mathan Webber

I know Phil Keaggy uses this for his main vocal mic, but I haven't had any experience with it.

I have an AT4047 and it is the mic I turn to the most often (I also have a KSM32, a C3000 and some V67's).

I have compared it to a 4033 and while the quality is very close, it seemed to me (an the guitar player I was record with) that the 4047 was just a little "warmer" providing a more "rounded" sound".

In particular the 4047 seemd to tame female vocals (and a "harsh" male vocal) better than the 4033. The difference on accoustic guitar was less noticeable. I have not tried to use it on a guitar cab.

It's always hard (at least for me) to articulate the subtle difference in mic performance - I hope this post helps.
