At present I have the AKG C 535 and its a lovely crsip sounding mic but slightly on the bright side.

I did have a Shure Beta 87a but spilt some water into it (silly me) and it won't work . I have took it in for repair but beautiful sounding, a bit softer then the AKG C 535.

Now I have heard great reviews on the Audio tech AE5400, just wondered how it compared to the AKG C 535, is it as bright?

I did have a Audio tech ATM 710 but dropped that a year ago . I understand the Audio Tech 710 is the entry level version of the AE5400. I hear that the AE5400 is built much better so I am tempted?

Has anyone here got the AE5400 that can help me?

Cheers

I have a couple AT-4054s - the predecessor to the AE5400 (there were two prior models, the AT4054 and AT4055, one was rolled off and the other not - the AE5400 has a switch). I have also used the AE5400 (bought one for a friend for Christmas) and own couple C535ebs. I do find the AE5400 less bright, smoother and a more hifi than the C535eb. It is more in league with the Neumann KMS105 and the Audix VX10 as a hi end performing vocal condenser. It is also less expensive than the Neumann and the Audix (or at least was less expensive last I looked). A generally better mic for vocals IMHO, although, like every mic, you need to actually try it out on the talent to know which fits best.
