i just got one and havent yet had the chance to test it out... have you ever used one? whaddya think about it?

I have not got one, but my experience with Audio Technica mics leads me to believe that it will sound very good. I looked it up on the net and I think this would have been a replacement for the old AT3525, I have 3 of these, I mostly use them for toms, percussion and female vocals. It will also sound good on a guitar cabs and brass. In fact try it on everything.

A lot of people here like the cheap series AT2020 and AT2035 (which are great value for money) but the AE3000 will be a cut above these.

Cheers
Alan.

I had the at2020/2021 package as my first set of mics and hated the 2020. I thought it sounded brittle and extremely harsh on everything I tried it on. The 2021 was much better and i still use it sometimes. I replaced the 2020 with a 4033 and was much happier. I really like the size of the ae3000... I intend to try it first on a snare, as its size seems conducive to getting into tight spots and ive never had the chance to try a condenser mic in this application.

Thanks for your opinion, Alan. Is the 3525 the same size?

Looking at the spec sheets they are almost identical in size, I believe that the AT3525 has a 3/4" diaphragm I can't see on the sheets what size the ae3000 diaphragm is?

Maybe I should have kept quiet about the AT3525, I have been picking them up on Ebay for about $100 each, LOL. I think you will find the AE3000 a very useful mic.

Cheers
Alan.
