audio stuttering in sonar (it is all over the place!)

hi there, thanks for checking this. just a quick query; when i play back audio in sonar it misses bits out and stutters it iwl also jump head and play bits early then mis bits out and play different bits instead, it sounds a right mess. midi playback is fine but audio is all over the place. i have changed buffer sizes and checked other settings and cannot solve the problem. i have tried re-installing sonar but i still have the same problem. is it my soundcard? if anyone can help it is much appreciated.

What type of results does Sonar's 'wave profiler' give you on buffer/mix latency timings? You may just need to find the sweet spot on these settings.

Also, what type of hard drive are you recording with, and how many tracks are you recording simultaneously at what sampling rate? You may just be exceeding your hard drive throughput.

Just a few ideas...

thanks for the suggestions i will mess around with mixing latency. i get this problem when i am playing back not recording and hard drive meter isnt high and neither is cpu meter. i have already set the latency high and this hasn't helped. thanks for that, do u have any other suggestions?

Try defragging your hard drive and also compacting your audio files (Tools -> Compact Audio Data).

Also, how full is your HD?

i think i have it, the clock on project settings was set to audio instead of internal. sorry to have wasted your time. thanks for all replies.
