Hi all,
I'm using music studio 7 and have just upgraded to a Delta 2496 soundcard.

After importing a wave file I then add a vocal to track 2. When I playback the mix there are no pops or clicks and everything sounds fine foe a few seconds but then the song stops at a certain point. So I click play again and the song plays but now there is no sound at all and the song stops at the same point.

So, I increase ALL the settings/buffers/latency in the Delta control panel and the music studio to maximum, save them, even restart the computer (just to be sure) open music studio, import the wave file, record a demo vocal again. Click play, everything sounds fine again until the same thing happens, only this time a few more seconds later than the last time.

I have disabled the motherboard soundcard in BIOS, (a realtek ac97 which worked like a dream except for the sound quality) re-installed the latest Delta drivers which I have done three times but the same thing keeps happening. I also tried the "reset rate if idle" option in the Delta contrl panel.

My computer system is a Pentium 4 CPU 2.4 GHz 256 MB ram and running windows XP.

Are there any settings in windows that I have neglected? DMA? Please help as I don't know what the solution could be.

Thankyou for any replies.

Not too familiar with this program, is it Magix? I think there's two programs if so, Audio Studio (a version of Samplitude) and Midi Studio (a version of Logic Audio, which does audio as well as midi tracks). Which one are you using? Most go for the Audio Studio as it's easier to learn.

There's a few possible causes, I seem to remember you had the choice of working with either RAM or Disk based projects in Samplitude, in which case you might simply not have enough RAM memory. Choose Disk when opening a new project.

Have you changed anything else? Got a Virus scanner running in the background for instance?

Could be something is stealing the soundcard driver. If your program is using ASIO which isn't multiclient like the AC97 WDM driver. You could reinstall the AC97 (it shouldn't cause a conflict problem in XP), go into Control panel/sounds and make sure the Realtek is selected for playback and recording. The AP2496 Delta driver is then free for your "serious" programs.

An alternative if you do want the AP2496 to do all the sound work is to select the Windows Sound Scheme for the "No sounds" option. However, this won't stop some media players from hanging on to the driver which earlier versions of Windows Media Player were prone to do. The latest version isn't so bad, but there can still be problems with RealPlayer and WinAmp if they're running in the taskbar.

256MB is a little small for music production, should be workable, but you'll have a smoother ride if you double this to 512MB.

You do have enough free disk space on the hard disk? Do a disk cleanup and run the Defragmenter (System Tools).

Yeah it's magix. I'm really at a loss.

I've been going through these forums for two days trying to find a solution. I have tried many ideas that has been suggested to other people with somewhat similar problems, but I haven't found a post which is quite like mine, that's why I tried to be as descriptive as I could with my problem.

I have plenty of disk space, nothing is running in the background, and just in the last hour I am unable to get any sound at all after recording the vocal track! I import the wave file, it plays fine. I record the vocal, no problem. Play back the song after recording,.....no sound and then stops 2 to 5 seconds into the song.

I just dunno! Seems like I've wasted some money....and I don't have much to waste.

The AP2496 is a fairly reliable card. I suppose it is possible you have a defective one though. Compared to an AC97, they can be sensitive beasts I must admit.

In the Delta panel hardware settings, make sure Master Clock is checked for Internal. Don't change the buffer size while a music program is running, it can crash the driver.

What about basic playback? Does Windows media player play CD, mp3, .wav etc ok with the card?

Is there an update for your program at the Magix website?
Have you installed XP service pack 2? Some programs have trouble with this for which most companies now have patches or workarounds.

There is a good list of XP settings for music at...
www.musicxp.net

Yeah I have no probs playing mp3, wavs etc in media player, musicmatch. It's only when I use magix. But I've used other cards with magix and I've had no hassles.

Thanks a lot for your ideas and replies Jim Y.

I'll mess around a bit and try audacity. At least it will give me an idea if the problem is the card. Maybe it's a magix problem. Dunno.
