Our band has a 50' audio snake with 12 xlr inputs and 4- 1/4" plug ins. All of the catalogs I see list 12 (or 8, or 16) inputs, which I assume are the xlr's, and 4 sends or outs. Are these 1/4" jacks for speaker cable connections (to mains or monitors) or are they for instrument cable type plug ins from a guitar or keyboard?

yea the xlr's are low impedence for mike cables and the sends go from the board to your power amps (if you have passive x-overs)or to your electronic x-overs

Those 1/4" jacks are TRS jacks (tip, ring, sleeve) and are balanced lines just like the XLR mic lines are. YOU CANNOT RUN SPEAKER LINES THROUGH THEM!!!

They are for either signal from the mixing position to get to the amps for the speakers, or monitor lines. ONLY SEND AUDIO SOURCES THROUGH THEM!!!
