To put my stereo vinyl tracks on CD, I assume that the audio signal has to be converted to WAV files on my computer. Is there free software that will do a good job of this, or am I on the wrong track?

AlRobnet, if you have SoundBlaster you may already have the software you need. There is a program called Wave Studio you can use. If not check out this link http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/AUDIO_RECORDING

Thanks Layth. I have checked out both Wave Studio and a program called Singulator from the URL you cited. The documentation with Singulator is terrific. Both require checking the option to "Show volume control on task bar" (control panel/multimedia). When I check that a message appears informing me that the volume control program is missing, use Install Program. I did a complete reinstall of the Creative/Soundblaster from the appropriate CD, but that did not solve the problem. I cannot get to the mixer. I know it was there at one time. I have recently upgraded from Win95 to 98. I also have tried to cut back on the programs on the taskbar, hoping to conserve RAM and reduce the likelihood of some unwanted program starting up during a CD burn and causing a loss of streaming error. Maybe I killed the mixer somehow (I don't see how). Whatever the cause, how do I get it back?

I believe that the volume control and mixer you are needing is actually from the Windows Operating System disk for the version of Windows you have. It is a good idea to keep that volume control and mixer happening, even if your soundcard has it's own mixer, because some software relies upon it to function.

Try reinstalling the mixer and volume control from the Windows disk.
