Im having problems recording audio. some times it works, many times it dosent. i can see the audio on the meter while recording to a track, but when i stop, there is no data on the track. what is happening? how can i fix it?

Ooh - I hate those "sometimes it works/sometimes it doesn't" kinds of problems. :(

Can you describe your signal chain? It might help everyone get a better idea of some of the possible things that could be happening. :)

Can I ask you a few questions regarding your problem ?

Yeah, sure Jaymz... what's up ?

What's your Cakewalk ?
What's your Windows ?
What's your soundcard ?
What's your setup ?
Can you describe how do you route your audio from the scratch thru Cakewalk ?
Have you ARMed the track ?
General info will be helpfull to help you...

Also, what your CPU, RAM, HD's, etc. Sometimes these problems are a result of overtaxing your computer (like if you're running a 133 Mhz Pentium with 64K RAM :D ). Knowing this can help us eliminate some of the obvious.

And, James, these conversations with yourself have got to stop.

The Almighty Dachay2tnr explained very well of my question of "What's your setup ?" :) But he must mean 64MB ;) 64K is ....errrrrr

...Help !!!! I can't help stoping myself. :D

And for an addition, you may want to check your Recording source in Windows Mixer (Taskbar, beside clock). If you use "regular" soundcard (opposed to dedicated soundcard for audio work)yMake sure it's either your Line In or Mic in. And MAKE A DAMN SURE IT'S LINE IN as it gives you better sound quality!!!
