I have come to the decision that i may build my own meterbridge/audio analyser for my studio to be built into some of the woodwork... does anyone know how to build a circuit that will simply take an audio signal in (1/4" Jack) and will then make 5/6 LED's flash depending on volume...

as a meterbridge usually displays volume... i dont think the circuit will be too complicated, but if anyone knows how to make them, or knows of a compenent that could do it for me, please help me,

Thanks,

Exactly like that, except im in UK and dont really want to pay that much, any way of making it myself? Maybe without a circuit board?

In small quantities, the parts involved are probably about $7 per channel, I don't know about UK suppliers. You can make your own PCBs if you're that determined. Personally I think the kit is a decent value at $17 per channel, if I was so inclined I'd buy one kit and copy the circuit trace so I could make my own PCBs for the rest.

These guys carry Velleman kits, didn't see the VU meter, but you could inquire:

You can probably find other UK suppliers.

If you're determined to build, check out the datasheet for this device, it has circuit examples:

I think page 13 is what you want.

You'll also need to construct an adequate power supply for however many channels you need.
