audio problems with new soundcard

Hi, I have been using Cakewalk Home Studio 2002 for several weeks. I previously had been recording straight into my laptop soundcard, from my guitar, through a preamp (a pod). Everything was fine, except for the cheap quality associated with playing directly into the computer. So I got a soundcard. First a Roland UA-3. When I tried recording with this, I would get an awful echo/delay. I tried tinkering with all the settings and nothing would work. I thought the problem had to do with the soundcard, so I returned it and got the Roland UA-100G (which I wanted more anyway). Again, I am having the crazy delay/echo/feedback problems. Just to make sure it wasn't the soundcard, I tried recording with different software. N-track was fine, as was Cool Edit LE that came with the soundcard. So, the problem has something to do with the Cakewalk software. I am used to this software, and I enjoyed its features, and I wouldn't want to spend more money to get different software. There must be something I am missing here. I would appreciate any response to help me out, either here or you can email me at fikus@feaselrock.com. Thanks so much, and download some free mp3s at www.feaselrock.com.

Okay,

I checked the Cakewalk website it HS 2020 does support
input monitoring (for live effects). That sounds like your
problem.

Go to Options > Audio and select the Input Monitoring Tab.
Deselect all the drivers. (This is for Sonar, I hope it is the same
for HS 2002).

Of course if you want to apply realtime effect you will need
to enable the drivers in the Input Monitoring Tab. In that
case you will need to disable the disable the associated input
driver in the Drivers Tab...but that's another issue.

I hope that fixes it for you,

Dirk

Nemal has your answer. Turn off input monitoring.

You could try lowering your latency settings, which would reduce the delay, but you'll probably find that creates more problems than it fixes. Best to just turn off input monitoring.

Many, many, many thanks. That was it. I thought it was something more complicated than that.

I really appreciate the help.
