audio plugins

hi.

i got some free audio plugins. I don't really know what a Gate does, can some please explain it to me?

A gate helps eliminate noise while nothing is being played.

Example, if you have a noisy guitar amp, you can use a gate that will get rid of the noise until you start playing. This helps make the recordings cleaner in between the parts where nothing is being played. If used in the wrong kind of song (like a sparse mix with few instruments) it can stand out and sound unnatural.

That's just one example. Gates are also used a lot for miking drums. I don't know much about that though.

I've never used a gate plugin, only a hardware one. So maybe someone else can give you some advice on how/when to use it in a mix.

But in all seriousness, I thought a gate was just something you used to keep your dog from running off into the neighborhood?
 
yes...complete with knob polishing balm (courtesy of Avalon).. It makes your knob smoother than any other manufacturer..so that it can penetrate whatever orphise you prefer to make it's happy hope with such an ease that why would you buy from any other company?
 
I have a pekingese..he figures out how to escape from the damnedest spots...pekingese always find ways to get out so they can roam the neighborhood in freedom.
