Hello,
I hope this is the right place to post my question. I'm new to audio equipment so I don't know a whole lot about what I'm doing. Basicaly, I run a review video/audio podcast show on the net. I started off with a really crappy camera, and I've slowly matured into a mediocre camera. I first tried lapel mics plugged into a bheringer mixer but we were getting a lot of hiss from them, so I bought an audio technica mic (around 50 bucks). It worked but was very low and still had a small hiss.
I finally broke down and bought an AKG perception 120, then used a preamp to go from the Perception's XLR inputs to a 3.5mm input into the camera. The camera I have now is the Canon Vixia hf m300. All seemed to be going well, the audio was perfect, but then I realized that none of my videos on mobile devices had audio. After doing a lot of searching I came up empty. I tried various different configurations and rendering techniques with the video files. I noticed that the audio coming from the camera playback also had the same problem. All you hear is some slight static and mumbling of possible voices in an alien garggle/chirping.
I called sweetwater to find out what they could do, and after some investigation, the tech I talked with saw that in my camera's manual it states that the camera has a built-in pre amp. We thought that maybe the two pre-amps that my mic was going through was the issue, so I recently bought just a phantom power supply and nixed the preamp. I just tried it tonight and I'm getting the same effects as before when listening to the camera playback. I tried my old mic once more and it worked fine hooked up to my camera. My Perception 120 also sounds fine when recording directly into a PC (though I assume that the sound would be garbled coming from the camera). I am at wits end and I'm not sure what the best approach is next. I'm assuming that my issue has something to do with the different speakers that are on cameras/mobile devices vs. PCs. Stereo vs. mono? I'm not sure, but if anyone has an idea of what my issue might be, I would greatly appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.
