i'm buying a new audio interface today for about and i have $500 to spend. what do you guys recommend me buying for that price so i can get professional sounding recording? i record hip hop by the way. thanks

What type of interface (PCI/PCIe, USB, FireWire, etc.) are you looking for? How many simultaneous inputs do you need? Do you need preamps in the unit, or just A/D conversion? Do you have software, or do you need that, too?

i'm lookin for a usb or firewire and i only need an input for a mic (FOR NOW) and a Triton keyboard but i still want more stuff in the future

IMO, a PreSonus Firepod would be a good choice. 8 clean-sounding mic preamps, SPDIF I/O, midi I/O, hardware zero latency. Tolerant of almost any brand of motherboard chipset hardware/CPU combo if you're on PC and win XP.

Hey, I use Sonar 5, but whats wrong with Pro Tools? Isn't ALL recording programs out there allow you to capture the "moment"?? a majority of the recording studios out there has a PT rig or few.
btw, your going to need a WHOLE lot more than $500 dollars to get any sound worth listening too. An interface does not give you 'studio' quality. It's also not JUST the gear, although it plays a nice roll, but it's also the knowledge of the producer/engineer. Just by knowing what your doing, your music can sound -better- regardless of your setup - to a certain point... anyways, like suggested, the Firepod should be fine for you, depending on what exactly you'll be doing.
