How can I get my Audio files (Tracks ) created in Cake9 to stay audio tracks when I open a Cake9 wrk file in Sonar XL. They are showing up as midi.

Is there a way to just open a cake9 wrk file (that contains Audio tracks) in Sonar xl and Sonar sees them as audio tracks?

Thanks

Malcolm

...Well, the better way to make sure it can be opened propherly is to save the files as .bun file in CWPA9...

Why Jaymz ?

Because .wrk format files didn't save your audio files contained in the certain project. It simply just put several refferences into audio files contained in those project. Cakey will use this refferences to trigger them and draw in the track view.

Where are those audio data being put Jaymz ?

The audio data are kept in your Cakewalk's Wave Data folder. If in any case you erase the wave data (eg. delete, clean...) you'll loose those. And cakewalk wont open it, instead just put a blank clip on track.

So what do I do now Jaymz ?

Make sure you pointed the Audio Data Folder setting in SONAR to match the location which was previously used by Cwpa9 you used to do the project.
In SONAR, go Options --> Global --> Folders, and point your Wave Data folder.

Is there any way to make it simple ?

Use Cakewalk Audio Finder 3.0 it's bundled with your SONAR installation CD. Or go www.cakewalk.com to download for free. It will tell you if any wave data is linked to certain projects or being orphaned. Check it out, it's easy.

Hope it helps.

Thanks James,
So basically when I open a Cake9 wrk file that contains audio,, and the wrk file gives me the option to search for the file because it may be in one of my different wavedata folders. Once I find the files and open them,,, I still need to have the data path for sonar pointed to the proper wavedata folde from the Global options? I didnt change the global file location in Sonar,,, I just searched for the file once I opened the old cake9 wrk.

Thanks

I will try again this evening

Yes indeed, Malcolm123. I hope you didn't erase the wave folder & the picture cache when you uninstall CWPA9, if you saved your previous projects as .wrk files. It's better to leave them there, and patch SONARs wave folder to those. Like I mentioned above, if in anycase you erased CWPA9 wave folder (...or whereever you pointed CWPA9 to put it's wave data), then you might lost the data... there's nothing you can do but to record 'em again. :( That's why it is strongly suggested that you save the audio contained project as .bun files in Cwpa9...

Thanks
Im straight. I never delete any of my wavedata folders while using Cake9,, I would just alwasy change the path location for the specific data.. I just couldnt get Sonar to see those wrk audio tracks as audio instead of midi.

I thought Sonar 2 would look for the audio missing in the .wrk-file (at least for my projects)... ;)

Yeah, it does give me a seacrh option and when I point to the correct folder and file. The audio track is still midi. If I insert a audio track,, then that track will show up as audio.
