audio files

Ok here's the thing - this is going to be kind of a long post but I really need some advice here - I ran out of space on drive C - never thoguht about it much before, just went on recording more and more audio - so I did a couple of searches on the board here and suddenly learned the meaning of bundle files - anyway the thing is when I first started out I used CW Express and CWGS - now using CWPA8 - I uninstalled Expressadn CWGS but the folders are still there - turns out now all my audio is in Express or GS (2 Take Vaults), and some files labeled WA~ which I can't open in a file called "WaveData" (also in Express) - CWPA itself (the one I am using) has no Take Vault - although all Global Options point to it... - anyway when I ran out of space I moved and deleted some files from the Vaults- I was careful about the deleting - but now only about half my stuff will open without the message 'some audio files can't be found' - I know some of the missing files are there - I have found them - tried moving them all into one folder from the different Take Vaults and directed Global Options to point CWPA8 towards them, but it still couldn't find them, then i found even the good songs wouldn't open. So I moved them all back. All this before I had made any bundle files.

Anyway my question is: I have now made .bun backups of about half the stuff (the songs that are not missing any files and they are the best ones, fortunately). Some important audio files have survived on the others - I reckon I would just have to redo some of the main gtr and vcl tracks - do you think I should go ahead and delete all this garbage that is blocking up my system, or should I try and dig out the specific audio files - about 8 GB of them altogether and try and manually reinsert them into the songs (if it's going top be possible...). Also can I delete the WA~ files lurking in the Express WaveData folder - I have no idea what they are. I did reinstall CWPA recently coz of other probs I was having. And once I have the bundle files done is it REALLY safe to delete all the wav files? Thing is I can'teven test the bundle files to see if they open coz I don';t have the space to open them.

Sorry to drone on - there didn't seem to be any simple way to put it. And I seem to be getting myself into one spot after another recently. If you have any advice, I'd love to hear it.

Cheers,

Malg.

Thanks a lot Paul - it almost worked - only thing is yes it located the missing audio files - but it got rid of the files that had previously been retained - kind of inverted the picture if you see what I mean. I wish I had made a couple of .bun files (before and after!) then I would have all the audio albeit in separate files! Also the songs that were ok before now have files missing - however I already had the backups made for those . I don't know if they have somehow got all tangled up with each other or what. It just seems I can't do something to one song without it affects the others. I noticed in CWAF that when I highlighted a song in the top window, then highlighted the missing audio files for that song and tried to locate them, the top window automatically highlighted other song titles too... Perhaps I will try putting all the audio and WA~ files into one folder and see what happens. After that I might just cut my losses and dump the lot. Thnks again anyway.

Sounds like you had the same experience I had. Sorry it didn't work out. But cos I'm a hoarder, I have kept all my wa~ files.......just in case. Makes me wanna cry when I think of the hours making them.

Oh well, won't make that mistake again.

Good luck.;)

Thanks - is there a difference then between a a .wa~ file and a .wav file? the only thing I know is I can't open any of the wa~ files.

Do they serve Hoskins' ales in your village then? :)

Now HERE'S a thing! I went into folder options/file types and changed my WA~ opener - now I can open them.

There's more - using the audio finder I have managed to track down the specific parts of audio missing from my songs. Now that doesn't mean the songs will open intact - they won't, I don't know why. But it's still amazing - but by clicking on a song name to highlight all the audio files associated with that song, then playing them one by one so I can see if it's a vocal or a solo or what, I have found the ones that are missing. so it seems to me all I have to do now is put in a search, find the file, rename it and back it up somewhere as part of a separate bundle. Then I can delete all the other useless ones, and just put the good ones back, if in fact I decide to keep them. I'm thinking also I might also be able to reinsert the .wav files into the songs where the silences are now, thus restoring the song to its original form, and save it as a .bun file. We'll see.

So thanks again Paul! The Audio Finder - what a tool (I mean that in the nicest possible way:D )! Hail to the Audio Finder:D

Cheers,

Glad to be of assistance. Yopu need all the help you can get located where you are. :( ARAMCO?

Used to know it well. I used to work for a company selling safety control systems to ARAMCO, RV Boyd was the Chief Instrument Engineer back then. Now retired.

I used to hate going through Dharan customs, the officials there are all b******s:(

Anyway, good luck!
