Hello guy's this is my first ever post here. I have an Audigy 2 platinum ex sound card, a Oktava mk319 Condenser Microphone, a Presonus TUBEPRE for the mic. Im running windows xp, with cubase sx for vocals and reason for production. Now the problem is everything works fine but I cant get nothing out of the mic im running the mic to the TUBEPRE the TUBPRE to the Audigy 2 platinum ex mic input on the front of the external I/O module. I get nothing at all I mean nothing. I been trying for two days now and need help. When I plug a regular pc mic into the mic input it works. Whats going on here. Has sound blaster F@#k me out of 259.00 or am I doing something wrong. If I left anything out or if you need more info let me know im here waiting for assistance.................Thanx

Probably a silly sugestion, but...Has your mic pre got phontom power?...If so, make sure it's on...

Yes it has phantom power and yes I had it on. That was not silly either. Anything else.

I'm assuming that you are plugging it into the same Mic In, don't those cards have a couple of places you can plug in a Microphone?

Have you checked under you recording properties on the Volume Control/Recording Control to see what you have selected to record from? Second idea... using Volume Control un-mute all devices then on Recording Control select 'What U hear'.

I haven't played around with Mic Pre's that much, but is the output level and mic or line level, it shouldn't it be plugged into the Line in instead of the Mic in?

I did all that and nothing works. The mic is set up on the computer correctly because the pc mic works. And the pc mic works in cubase sx. So its not the computer.

Plug the output of your preamp into the line-in on the soundblaster. Now the line-in is probably stereo 1/8" (or 1/4"?) so you'll need some adapaters to get from the pre-amp to the soundcard. That might be the source of the problem.

Ok I have the mic running to the TUBEPRE and you want me to use the input of the sound card instead of the mic input.

Ok here's the what the jacks are on the Sound Blaster Audigy2 Platinum ex:

Line In 1 (1/4” Stereo-Jack combined with a microphone input with additional gain control);

Line In 2 (1/4” Stereo-Jack);

Headphones output (1/4” Stereo-Jack).

SB1394 (FireWire);

Optical SPDIF in/out;

Now the input on the tubepre is:
XRL Impedance 1.3kw

High z Impendance 1megw

THe out put is:
XRL Balanced 510hms Impendance

1/4" TRS unbalanced

The cables im using are PXM-105 Unbalanced cable

Im using one for the mic that runs from the mic to the input of the tubepre. The im using another that runs from the tubpre output to the Line In 1 (1/4” Stereo-Jack combined with a microphone input with additional gain control)

Everything is set up correctly because if I plug my pc mic to the Line In 1 (1/4” Stereo-Jack combined with a microphone input with additional gain control); it works fine and the levels move in cubase sx. When I unplug the pc mic from the Line In 1 (1/4” Stereo-Jack combined with a microphone input with additional gain control); and plug in the other mic I get nothing.

Help please...........COuld it be the cable im using or does anyone know if this card can work with a mic pre or maby if it works with a condenser mic. I dont know any thing would help.

Have you tried to plug it into Line 2 (remember to change the Recording Properties).

I've got an old Live drive and I know on the microphone input, you need to turn the gain off to make it into a 'Line in' port.

My setup is an Audigy 2 Ex using a Art Tube Pre-Amp Studio and an Oktava 219.

I use an XLR/XLR mike cord running from the mike to the Art input and an XLR (out)/TS 1/4 (in to the SB external interface) cord.

Then I tweak the Input/Outputs on the tube pre-amp in conjunction with the (sound card pre-amp) Mic Line-In knob on the external box.

Have tried testing your Mike/Pre set-up by running it into something like a guitar amp?

You may either have either a bad mike or a bad cable connection.

Also I am using the Cubase VST program that came with the card and struggled at first until I discovered that on the software mixer you have to hit the tiny little 'In' button on the VST Channel Mixer to get sound input.

Thanx guys all this time I had a corrupt driver. I learned alot from you guys.
