Got a few questions...
1) Does the audigy have any problems with Sonar 2?
2)And what is this about the 2ms latency I see in advertisments?
3)Will there be any difference in recording quality if I upgrade from a live card?

Pier.

1) Not to my knowlegde, but it got serious problems with Windows XP.

2) Bullshit. Not possible in Sonar anyway. Could be (but I don't
think so) better in Cubase or Logic.

3) Not much better, but a little better. If you'll notice it, I don't know. I did, but then again, I changed most parts in my studio. Now I only use the Audigy for soundfonts...

What kind of problems does it have with win xp? Hasn't creative fixed them yet with new drivers?

For example is there a big possibility that Sonar only will recognize the Audigy as a monocard. I don't use XP, so I have not experienced these problems.

Hasn't creative fixed them yet with new drivers?
Well, actually Creative make worse drivers than even Microsoft. They haven't fixed it yet. Hopefully the will!

MadStrum - If you are going to upgrade, then spend your money on a "real" audio card, such as one of the Delta series cards. I don't think there is very much of a price difference. Keep your SB Live for midi purposes.

Sound Blaster are and will always be gamer cards. Their support sucks to say the least.

If you are at all serious about using your soundcard and want to spend your money wisely, buy something like the Audiophile 2496.

I have both the Audiophile and SB Live in my system. The difference is like night and day.

audigy and xp w sonar

I am using sound blaster audigy platinum with xp and Sonar 2. It has worked very well in everything I have tried to do. There is no latency problem but configuration took me a while to figure out. Then again Im new to sonar so I would have had to figure out any soundcard setup. I think I did wind up with upraded drivers from creative but I dont recall what the final driver I settled with was. Pretty sure its the one I downloaded from creative though.
By the way the live card IS A different driver! I tried that when I tried a live card out.

ACtually, I'm not really that keen on getting an Audigy, but my sis needs a firewire port urgently, and the audigy has it. But since you guys say there are xp problems with audigy I better sit it out for a while...

Is it difficult to install sb live and audiophile 2496 together?

I would not expect Creative to ever fix the WDM driver mono bug.
The best hope is that EMU will produce the APS2 music Audigy they were planning - but as they are owned by Creative, that is a very slim hope.
I suspect the good performance reported for the Audigy is with ASIO drivers under Cubase.
Music is a tiny part of the Soundcard market and if you look at most on-line reviews, you will see that they don't even test recording. They are only interested in game sound and mp3 acceleration. So Creative only have these benchmarks to worry about in order to satisfy their major market.
If you must use an Audigy under Windows 2000 or XP, you will need to use Cubase or Logic and the ASIO type driver, but only the latest versions of these sequencers are reliable under these O/S.
The cheapest 4in - 4out + midi card for Sonar using WDM drivers is the TurtleBeach "Santa Cruz". Excellent sound quality for the money.

Firewire cards are cheap too. For the price of an SB "Ugh-iddy" card, you can get that AND a better sound card.

I have an SB Live platnum, Audiophile 2496, and a firewire card all installed on the same computer. You just have to juggle them around in the slots until they don't share IRQ's in bad ways. My 2496 card is sharing with the firewire card. I use the firewire card for capturing digital video. Since firewire captures sound at the same time, I don't have to worry about a conflict with the 2496 card. When I do recording, I disable the firewire card just in case, but I doubt it would cause any problems as long nothing is plugged into it.

I can tell you for sure, that my Audiophile card sounds MUCH better than an SB card probably EVER will. Over the years that I've had the SB Live card, I 've discovered that "Creative Labs" really does not care about ever REALLY making their soundcards work, for musicians, the way they claim it's supposed to. They never completely supported the older live cards until they were fully functional, as advertised. They just tack on more bells & whistles to the NEXT card that they want your $200 for.

There is no bug with WDM drivers and Audigy in Sonar (where Sonar recognizes the card as mono). This is a bug with the SBLive in Win2k/WinXP.

With ACPI off, and the new drivers it sounds and works great!

A "thing" in Win2000/XP that automaticly assign all your hardware to IRQ 9.

And that's supposed to be a good thing?

I'm not missing it, btw...

I don't know... but for some reason when I installed Win2000 and turned ACPI off, the machine went straight to hell! Didn't work at all. Every single pice of hardware was fighting, and I wasn't able to reconfigure the IRQs either. So I installed Win2000 with ACPI and everything went back to normal...

But did you turn off ACPI in the BIOS as well as with the installation (when 2000/XP is asking for third party drivers in the beginning of the installation, press F5 and choose for Standard PC)?

If you only do one of the two I can imagine problems could occur...

I did both, but still....
