Ok..I am puting togather a computer right now and I need to buy a soundcard. I looked at the Audigy EX and I really liked it. What I mainly plan on doing is using a lot of MIDI. I also plan on using my FOstex VF-16 with the card (S/PDIF). I know that the card is only 16 bits...but I am not planing on using the A/D convertor because I will be doing any recording with the VF-16. Another thing I like about the Audigy is that it has a breakout box...I am lazy and don't like diging around on the back of the computer. SO can anyone make any recomendations on any other cards that will fit my needs that I have listed with the Audigy EX.
Thank You

A good card with low latency used in conjunction with VST or DXi softsynths will kick the Audigy's ass any day. The onboard E-Mu chips on soundblasters are nothing to write home about. The Edirol Virtual Sound Canvas that comes with Sonar and Home Studio 2002 gives most SB a good run for their money.

Personally, I think SoundFonts are more trouble than they're worth as well

I'd seriously look at the other lower end 24 bit cards that give you your basic 2 audio INS/OUTS like the Audiophile 2496 and Echo cards. They can be bought for around $150. When used with ASIO or WDM drivers (depends which software you are using to record) they easily outperform any Sound Blaster card.

I'll agree with brzilian that the M-Audio Audiophile or the Echo Mia are better choices for digital audio--if that's all you are doing. But I think the Audigy may be a good choice for you for doing MIDI.

Before you decide, talk to Ethan Winer, a pro. Send him an email, he is extremely knowledgable and responsive, and he knows the Audigy as well as the M-audio products (I think he owns a Delta 66). He can lead you in the right direction.

Here's Ethan's website:http://www.ethanwiner.com/

There's even an article there about the Audigy.

Great Thanks Guys! I saw that review that Mr. Winer did posted on the Creative Labs website. I believe I will get the Audigy.
Thanks for all of the Help!
