Click the link and download to be amazed. Here's the summary on the site:

"Audacity is a free audio editor. You can record sounds, play sounds, import and export WAV, AIFF, Ogg Vorbis, and MP3 files, and more. Use it to edit your sounds using Cut, Copy and Paste (with unlimited Undo), mix tracks together, or apply effects to your recordings. It also has a built-in amplitude envelope editor, a customizable spectrogram mode and a frequency analysis window for audio analysis applications. Built-in effects include Echo, Change Tempo, and Noise Removal, and it also supports VST and LADSPA plug-in effects."

This program is free and is extremely awesome. You can record onto your [cheap] digital workstation and upload to computer (if you have one like the Fostex MR-8 with a tiny flash card) and mix and master with the program. You can arrange the audio files with extreme accuracy and you can also add different effects.

I highly recommend that everybody with a Fostex MR-8 or another limited storage workstation try this program.

nah...

I'm still waiting for auto time correction or auto latency fix as well as multitrack recording capability. When that happens, I will love Audacity more than any other program.

other programs can do all this times 500! ha. where have you been? ha!

The beauty is that Audacity and Ardour are doing it in linnux. What that can possibly mean for fx, routing, latency, track count, hardware interfacing and etc is mind boggling

Yes, but are there other free programs to do this?

Where have I been? I've been not using software for mastering I guess.

Awe, go on Shackrock, don't leave us in the dark. Share some of that wisdom around us mere mortals.
