I click into Cubase, big blue screen of death pops up "fatal exception OE 0028:00000017". Yes I'm pretty angry, I've reinstalled the program the display driver, and I have no idea what's wrong with this (no viruses either).

Please help. I have Windows 98.

I doesn't do this with other programs.

Well,
I had a similar problem once, turned out to be a bum plugin. I unstalled all my plugins, and it went away.

OE errors are almost always a hardware problem, and most frequently a video card error. That's not carved it stone, but in my experience, I've always wound up replacing a video card to get rid of the problem. What's your setup? What video card, what motherboard? You know ... the usual.

AMD Athlon motherboard, the popular one I think its somethin like M226, well I'm not sure. It is an AMD Athlon.

Ouch! That card is anchient to say the least. You could do yourself a favor and go out and buy something a little more current for less than $100.

not having enough ram will make app crash at times or just a bad install will cause a crash, it may be the app itself, try it on a different system if possible...

and i believe cubase adds a driver to the system, this may effect it but donno..... kinda new to recording myself

make sure its the right OS version also...98-win2k-xp etc... linux :)

A knowledgeable friend tells me blue screens are normally hardware related .

i believe i've seen 50 BSOD from drivers alone over the past 3 years... if hardware is bad the system won't start correctly or at all usually....
