Attack, hold, sustain, etc. for what??
Sonar has certain automatable effects (e.g., reverb, EQ). There are about 6-8 of them (I'm not at my DAW at present, so I don't recall which ones or how many). These are the effects that are preceded by Fx - e.g., FxReverb.
If you patch one of these plug-ins into a Track, you can then go to the Track and right click. You'll get a pop-up menu. Select envelopes froms the menu, and you should see an envelope choice for the plug-in you have patched to the Track. If you select that, you'll get another menu with a bunch of check boxes - one box for each control that is in the effect. Check off the ones you want to play with, and you'll get a track evelope for each control you checked.
I find this a very useful tool. Be careful though not to check off too many controls, or your Track will get very busy with envelopes. Just check the ones you think you need to automate.
Also note that this doesn't work for all plugins. Only the new ones designed for DX8. At present, I don't think it will work for any 3rd party plug-ins, and only some of those provided with Sonar.
