I have a question about ATR services...Will they service ANY type of analog reel-to-reel? Or does it have to be one of theirs?
2nd I see they have a 2" 8 track RtR that only costs $29,500. I believe the price is soo high cause its also a 5.1 machine or something. Do they have any other machines similar to the ATR-108C that is just a basic 2" 8 track machine for a slightly more reasonable price? (I can Dream Cant I?) Since their site is a little skimpy on answers I figured Id ask a bunch of questions here.
And barring the possibility that I cant raise the 29,500 for the ATR-108c...I was hoping to be able to send my TSR-8 off to a qualified service center and have them bring the machine back to spec...
IF they dont do that or cant is there any other place that does? I dont want to take it to Joe "Multitrack Fixer" down the street.

I'd take it to Joe "Mulitrack fixer"
I would imagine that if whoever Joe is, is still in business, he probably knows what he's doing.....
Ask him a few questions first to see if he seems to know what he's talking about and what his intentions would be to bring it up to spec. I would imagine that anyone who does this for a living must be pretty into it, as I can't imagine it's a big money maker.
You might find a good 2" machine on Ebay and buy an ultimate analog 8 track head stack from www.jrfmagnetics.com based in Folrida.
Don't know what the stacks cost though....
