hi
could you recomend me a mobo for athlon processor. I am thinking of asus or gigabyte but I am not sure which chipset I should choose.
Should I go with 333mhz ram or will 266 mhz be enough?
I 've been working with cubase sx on p3 733 which is slow a bit for such a killer like sx.

ASUS makes fine Athlon Mobos, and you might want to take a look at Tyan, I've been using them for a while and have no complaints (but not for my DAW) :D

I agree with Barometer, ASUS makes great boards, I can say that because I use one. Also, I would buy one step behind the newest boards, you save some dough and get a board that has been out there a while and put to the test. New shit can be buggy sometimes.

ok thanks I'll stick to asus. but which one exactly - a7v333?
what about ram - should it be 333mhz?

thanks a lot

You could always ask the sound card manufacturer which chipsets work with their cards.

I was learned to trust the AMD76x chipsets, so I did, and with positive results. I bought an ASUS A7M266 more than a year ago which is still rock solid and will hold the newest XP processors.

But, again, when in doubt ASK your manufacturer!

Im using a FIC AD11 mb with Athlon/Via chipsets, Athlon 1700+. I don`t have any problems with it.

For the record I just bought a Gigabyte GA-7VRX. So far itt seems to work ok. VIA KT-333 chipset. they also make a GA-7VRXP which has built-in LAN and RAID, but I didn't need either. However I probably would have bought it if I had know at the time you could use the RAID controller as two additional IDE controllers.
