Just got my DAW upgraded.

Athlon 64 3200 939 chipset
Asus a8v deluxe
512 Kingston DDR 3200
Belkin 3-port Firewire card (There was a buildin firewire card but it was sharing IRQ, so I disabled it and put the Belkin into PCI slot # 3, no sharing!)
Seagate Barracuda 80G system (IDE 7200)
Seagate Barracuda 120 G audio (IDE 7200)
Zalman alcu7000 cpu fan (with fan speed control)
Antec Sonata (black)
Mackie Onyx 1220

Can't say much so far, but It works much faster than my old Athlon XP 2100
No pops so far.

Damn you :D

My next purchase will be an AMD64 based machine. Still using my trusty Athlon XP 2100+ system with a gig of ram and it's doing it for me. You always used Asus MB's? The only brand I've used in recent years. Using an A7V8X-X right now.

If you have the time, come on back here and let us know what you can get out of it!

AMD Athlon XP2 2100+ that's was my old one. It was a pretty cheap machine, no ASUS mobo though, it was ECS K7S5A PRO and Mushkin 512M 2100. When I got my beauty Mackie Onyx I could not even stand a look of my old horse :D . So, one more credit card and a new DAW!
Now I'm running Sonar 4 producer and getting familiar with Samplitude 7 (a lot of stuff! Mostly for mastering. Sonar does not have those tools. Shame on it!!!). What I'm doing now, just playing with plug-ins, giving my new baby a hard time. Will see... Can't come up with anything concrete so far. Let me play for a while and I'll get back. But so far so good, that's for sure!!!

Peace

It's me again.
Can you guys give me a link to (I don't remember how it's called) somewhat like Sonar test.... It was a file with attached plug-in's (more the a few). I remember that I've downloaded it, but can't find it anywhere...
It was published on some forum so that every member would be able to test his system.
Just want to test my new one...

Thanks.

Abolit go SATA RAID 0 and never look back...I did with a Athlon 64 3400+ and boy was there a difference

Teacher,
Can you give me some technical instructions how to install those SATA drives in RAID 0? So, I have to get two identical SATA drives for the system and one more fore Audio?
Sorry for stupid question, but I really never had a deal with SATA and RAID.

Peace

If I install two indentical SATA drives, where should I install the Audio HD?
Can I setup two IDE HD (not SATA) into RAID 0 ???

Thanks

I have audio/systems drivers on the same drive. Your MOBO should come with a book that'll have instructions on how to set up the RAID config.

THe only thing is before you do this you should leave your computer on for at least 72 horus with the new SATA drives. If neither drives fails within that time you'll be fine for a few years.

or

you can spend some more money get 4 SATA drives and setup a RAID 0+1 which will be the RAID 0(high performance config) with the +1 which will image the 0 drive so you won't have to worry about drives going bad on you. If one happens to go bad the Imaged drives will take over the duty.

Sounds like a nice, quiet system you've got there! I'm about to start building a new system and will also be going with an AMD64 Winchester (3500+) and Asus AV8 Deluxe board just after the new year.

Are you using the stock Antec PSU? I'm going to go for the Antec SLK3000B - it comes without a PSU so I can pick a really good quiet one with 120mm exhaust fan.
