Which one should i get? I will want to use this for casual listening and Monitoring. I understand that monitoring with headphones is not the best, but I don't have a good enough budget to purchase a decent pair of monitors, and also ill be in a dorm so thats out of the question. The only thing im worried about is the cord length.

I dont know if these lengths are correct:
ATH-M50s(straight) - 11 feet cable
ATH-M50(coiled) - 4 feet coiled (roughly 9 feet uncoiled)

If i get the straight version does anyone have any suggestion on tidying up the cable for portable use? ie. using a cable tie or something.

If i get the coiled version has anyone had any experience with tugging on the ear?

Lastly (just a personal thought), i think i would feel like a d-bag wearing a coiled cable around. What are your guys preference on people wearing coiled cables in public. Do you guys think its weird? Embarrassing? d-bag status?

Coiled cables in public are like afros. Best left in the 70s unles you have the cajones to pull it off...

If you have an 11 ft cable, you can skip whilst you walk along. Sing along to the Carpenters tunes you've got loaded on your iPod at the same time with a goofy smile on your face, and people will definintely think differently about you...

IMHO wearing big closed headphones out in public at all is a sign of a d-bag...

They're professional studio headphones - suggest you buy whatever you need for your prime purpose - what randoms think of your choices is irrelevant...

Monitoring is fine with headphones. You just won't get a decent mix. You may learn to compensate but it will take a while. I've tried using headphones and you can get it sounding great in the phones but as soon as I listen to it in my car or home system it sounds like crap.

And +1 to what Armistice said ...
