Anybody have any experience plugging an AT822 mic into the mic-in for recording live shows? I have played around with this thing a little and the sound I get is pretty good when I go through the mic-in at low sensitivity on my Sharp DR7. I have also played around with the line-in but the signal is way too weak and I have heard some bad things about using preamps on the AT822 since the output is unbalanced. I have used some Giant Squid Audio cardiods with a battery box going into the line in with good results. I just wanted to have some that would do a little better when I don't need to use the small clip on mics. Not the knock the GSA mics, they are great little wonders that I plan to keep. Just wanted something in addition.
Here's my questions:
1. What kind of noise do you think I will get when recording moderate to loud shows going through the mic-in with this mic? (I have recorded Ekoostik Hookah going mic in with the GSA and the sound wasn't that bad at all. And they are LOUD! I guess if the show is really loud, I can always go through the line in and normalize with Cool Edit Pro.)
2. Do you think I would have any better luck using one of Shure's transformer cables that run XLR to mini? Would that make the mic-in route any better?
Reactive Sounds is working to convert their Boost Box to work with the AT 822 and I may check out their solution once it's ready. Anybody have any experience with that Boost Box and a MD recorder?
Thanks for your help and feedback.
