I know you have them both. How do you think they compare so far?
Vocals, or other uses.
Anyone else with experience with either mic, also.

i saw a ricky skaggs concert 2 years ago, and two of the guitarists were using at 4047's.

They sounded great so i picked one up.
It sounds great as expected on acoustic guitars.
This mic is also really good for screaming vocalists.
Its a good hi-hat mic as well.
Ive never looked at the freq printout.
But it sounds like it has a little bump in the 2k area that gives it a nice intelligible quality.
It also has a high spl (140 i think) which also puts it in the lloud guitars and bass cabs arena of recording.
Our live engineer loves it on bass cabs.
There isnt one thing i dont like about this microphone.

Sorry dont know about the 4040.

Me and a friend had a 4040 that we used to make our first demo, and for not knowing what we were doing, we got decent results with it on vocals. Didn't have the heart to put it up against the guitar amps, but it works pretty well with vocals if that's the price range you're looking at.

I think the 4047 is the best mic in the AT 40 series. It's got a silkier sound than the sometimes grainy 4040. The 4040 is also a perfectly good mic and versatile over a lot of applications - but given the choice, I'd take the 4047 hands down. The 4047 is also just simply a better vocal mic than the 4040 on everyone we've tried out with both mics.

I love my 4040! Can't tell you about the4047, but I've been using the4040 dead in front of the soundhole of my acoustic and have been getting great results! I keep it about 6" away and get a nice, smooth and just slightly dark response. But never boomy. I've experimented alot with location and found that it starts to sound mid-rangy if I point it at the lower bout or pull it away beyond a foot or so. It just loves the soundhole!

I've been too busy with client work to get any play time. Sorry. Right now, my space is piled high with client computers waiting for service.

I have a request in with Recording Engineer to hook up at his studio for some A/B time, but he is swamped in work also.

In a nutshell, the 4047 is darker.

That's my complex and highly-technical answer.
