I am interested in purchasing one microphone for my ADAT studio. I want to use this mic for vocals and also to mic my Marshall tube combo for both clean and overdriven sounds.
Near as I can tell, this mic would suit these apps. What do you all think? Thanks for your input.

Do it...this mic is my fave...

Go for it...I love this mic...if you aren't sure though...talk to your local store....see if they will let you take it home...if they won't, find another place to do business...try it out at home...if you don't like it...look into a CAD E-100 or something similar...if you are dealing with a store that won't let you try at home before you buy, go somewhere else....I used to work for a fairly large store...and I couldn't do business any other way...I just wanted the customer to be happy and if it took him taking 5 mics home over a month period before he decided...than no biggie...he was happy...i made the sale, and he'll come back for other stuff when he needs it.

I have been known....

I have been known to use a 4033 on lead guitar tracks, but for overall rythem sounds and what not, I don't find the 4033 provides quite what I am looking for. It is an OKAY sound, but not what I want.

Shure SM-57's are very cheap, and are definately the industry standard mic for recording guitar. Buy one of each! :)

AT 4033 and SM-57

I would have to agree with him on that one...I use a 57 in the sweet spot (the sweet spot is different for different amps, people, guitars, speakers, etc.) for rythym as well, if you can afford both, get both, 57s are priceless in the studio, and not just on your guitar stuff. For an all around mic though, including vocals, shoot for the 4033 (in my opinion) and then save another 90 bucks for a 57 if you can't afford both at the same time. If you wanna good deal, and don't mind doing business over the phone, there is a store in the midwest who has done me right all the time. Guitar World deals both Audio Technica and Shure mics, and if you call them and tell them Ben Deane said to call you guys, they might give you a good deal. 913-341-0915. Hope I can do that on this website...sorry if that is against the rules, I just really like that store...ask for Zach.
