okay... post didn't go through first time... here we go again:

Looking to record male vocals. I can't afford a "great" mic yet, so i will have to waste some money on a budget mic. Eventually i will upgrade mic. But i'm hoping on alan hyatt mentality... the 10x more expensive mics aren't 10x better.

Can people who own the AT3035 tell me how you like it on male vox? Compare it to other mics you own. I can pick this up for about 175... save a little bit towards a real pre that will improve on my mackie vlzpro pre's, maybe a grace101 or even thinking about the RNP.

Otherwise, i will give the "highly posted about" SP C1 a try. I see that the C1 should have brighter sound due to the hyped highend. Although i'm not sure that this would sound good on male voice, i have heard many posts to the contrary and the SP mic CD sounds quite good on the male voices, IMHO, not too bright (maybe my speakers aren't good enough to hear it? Monitors are already on the way).

Anyway, if you actually possess these mics, or have used them well enough to state your opinion, SOUND OFF! =]

the 3035 sounds good on male voices......and your getting a major deal for 175........the cheapest i've seen is 199.99 at the local music store and musicians friend. i would think that u could use it for longer than u think......it's a rather nice mic and i think that you'll find urself going back to it from time to time even after you buy a "good" mic

oh yeah........i've only heard it on higher male voices though......so if you are a baritone or sumptin, i don't know.........i've used it on bass drum and it sounded good.....i don't know how well that will relate to a deep male voice though.....

i'm babbeling so i'm gonna stop

What kind of male vocals?

Seriously, that covers an extremely broad range. Can you narrow it down a little? Give us an example of something it's similar to? I don't necessarily have the answer, but I can help you ask the right question, so that those who DO know can help you out.

I've got an AT 3035...it behaved rather strange on a couple of occasions...it was great when I bought it, then once I was recording my self with it and my "ESSs" sounded funny, as if you applied a lot of de essing to them, but now it seems to be ok again,...not sure what the problem was...could be a bit of humidity that's gotten in there..but now it's gone and it's fine again :) ....overall...great bang for the buck

cheers

AT 3035

After trying an MXL V63 for a few months, (and getting progressively more and more disappointed with it) I traded it in for a 3035. I found it to be much better sounding than the MXL mic. Richer sounding, more natural, and less sibilant. I have done vocals with the 3035, and recently aquired the PSP Vintage Warmer plug in. This mic sounds GORGEOUS on vocals through the Vintage Warmer. So, I think if processed well this mic can achieve very good results. As far as acoustic guitar goes: I have used it on its own and gotten good results. (the usual 12th fret set-up) And when used on lower bout, or a foot or so back from the soundhole as a second mic, (with an SM81 at the 12th fret) it filled out the sound nicely. In some positions it sounds a bit like it's big brother the 4033. I wouldn't say that it is overly hyped anywhere across the board. (unlike a lot of the other less expensive condensers) The V63 was hyped in the highs AND lows, which made for some interesting EQing attempts on my part. (I've heard this referred to as the boom-sizzle frequency response) The 3035 doesn't have this problem. So keeping my admitedly limited experience in mind, I would say it is a good all around mic, a good dollar value, and it behaves very well.

I have an at3035 that I use on myself mostly. I think it does a great job. I have a fairly deep voice and at times I really belt/yell.
It has a pad and a roll off which is nice for the price. I got mine at 8thstreet.com for 199.95 with a shure cord and a boom stand.

I would recomend it!
