Hello everyone,

I'm the newest newbe on the block. I'm getting my first home recording project together. I've done some demos...but plan on getting an acoustic CD put together before the new year. I listed my recording gear above. Anybody have tips, advice, etc. before everything get underway? I'm using the two mics to record my guitars, (Taylor 614ce, Martin D41 and Martin D18GE). The AT will also be used as my vocal mic. and I'll use the Shure to record the sweeteners, shaker, tambourine, etc. Any help or feedback is welcome.

First tip. A question like that is way too broad. Is much easier to ask specific questions. People around here could write a book of tips for you, but dont want to or have the time.

The best tip i can give you is to go back on previous threads on this forum and digest everything you can find. Possibly anything you could ever ask or ever need is right here on this forum already fully discussed in another thread.

But if your having problems with a specific problem, let us know and there are thousands here willing to help out.

BTW, welcome to the gang. This the best resource on the net for starting homerecordists. Hope i see yah around.

Welcome 007, nice choice of mic's. Sound's like your good to go man, so get going young man!:)

Thanks fellas. I guess I needed a little vote of confidence.
Indeed, I plan on hanging around for a while. I'll have to do some searching on previous posts, and look forward to discussing my work in progress w/ y'all. Thanks again.

Why would you use mics instead of a direct line with a pick-up to record your acoustic? I'm in the same newbie boat and I thought the other way around would be better, no?

No. Steel string acoustics generally sound like ass recorded direct. Virtually no one--pro or home recordist--records an acoustic guitar direct.

007, that looks like a great setup. Very nice guitars and mics, and the BOSS looks like a quality piece also. The only thing I'd question is the mic pres in the BOSS. If you have a Guitar Center nearby, you might want to try a M-Audio DMP3 dual mic preamp (I only paid $119 for mine). This amazing little box sounds wonderful on acoustic guitar IMO. Take it home and record some tracks through both it and the BOSS. If the DMP3 doesn't work for you, just take it back. But I think if you try it you will keep it.

Also, maybe experiment with your mic technique on different songs--wide stereo spread on one song, more focused pattern on the next, XY config on the next, over-the-shoulder technique on another, etc. Dont forget the 4050 has multiple patterns. I'd take advantage of this if I were you.
