What does everybody think of this for vocals. To my ear it seemed rich, clear, more interesting then the 4050 but not harsh. The guy in the store said he thought it was for intruments. I've never heard the 4060. Is it any good?

the guy was wrong. any mic is for anything as long as you think it sounds good and it can handle the spl's.

i've never used that mic, so i can't give you my opinion on its sound. i just hate uninformed/misinformed salesmen and had to give you my opinion on that.

i want to see what the 4047 sounds like on toms. i've used large diaphram condensors before on toms and it sounded cool, and according to the frequency response graph, the 4047 has a low end bump going on that kind of interests me.

I have heard lots of good things about the 4060 for vocals.

Dont ever let any salescum tell you what mic is good for what application. The 4050 is good for a LOT of things...The 4060 is good for a lot of things. The 4047 is great for a lot of things, especially vocals. The FUN part of recording is trying it all out for yourself and then deciding without anyone telling you any different.

you will never have to appologize for the 4047sv

considered by many to be a high quality and multipurpose mic. has had a long run as a studio standerd. often used on vocals.

The 4047 is a great sounding vocal mic. The 4060 is better (I'd put it up there with some of the "world class" mics), but if you can't afford one (used for ~$650 on up), get the 4047.

I have the 404o, and it does just fine for me. It looks like the 4047 is a step up, and is supposed to be a great mic, for vocals and instruments.

I like the 40 series. These are good to great mics across the board.

The 4050, 4060 and 4047 are all good mics. They may or may not work in any particular situation, but I wouldn't hesitate to try any of them on vocals if that's what I had handy. Any of those are capable of performing admirably. Even the 4033 can work on occasion.

The 4047 is awesome. It's one of my favorite mics...both for instruments and for vocals. I think it's pretty underrated.
