Recently bought a Rode NTA1 but it is way to bright and I sold it. Im looking to buy one of these mics and if anyone has recorded with the Studio Projects C1 or the AT 4040, please give an opinion. Thank you

I've not tried the SP C1 so I can't comment but, I do own the AT 4040. Although I'm not crazy about the mic for my raspy, unrefined voice, I do love it on acoustic guitar. It is a fairly neutral mic and not bright at all to my ear. Others may find it great on Vox but, it doesn't work well on my voice. Some have said that the mic has a "grainy" recording quality but, I don't hear this at all.

I have used the Studio Projects C1 for 4 years, I like(d) it until I invested in the AT4047 and I havent looked back. The sound is a lot better for my voice (deeper/raspy). I compared the two mics and the SP C1 was a lot more "bright" whereas the AT4047 had a fuller sound.

i have a c1 its a good mic but its a little bright the 4047 is amazing my c1 has just been sitting in my locker

The reputation when the C1 came out was that it sounded like a U87. It didn't. In side by side comparisons the C1 had the U87's "vibe", but sounded scooped and had a pronounced high end, do to the fact it used a different circuit that the U87 with a K67 capsule. The 4040 will be more useful on many sources, hands down.

Exactly....

The AT4040 is a great overall type of deal but I in my experience, I'd recommend steering clear if you sing in the higher male range or have a chimey strat tone. I'd check out the AKG C214. Seems to do everything the AT did, without the mentioned shortcomings and can be had for way below sticker price on ebay.
