I`m wondering if anyone can shed any light on which mic would be better, the at-4033 or the akg c-3000b.I hear of a lot of people liking the 4033 but I`ve never used one. However I did get close to the c-3000b and was quite impressed.they seem to both have about the same specs. thanks Al

I would go with the 4033, I think you'll be much happier.

I've got one of each and the 4033 is the better mic.

that`s two for the at-4033. but could you tell me why you feel this mike is better,(not doubting you , just curious) thanks Al

no question the 4033 is the better mic. At least to my ears anyway.
I think the 3000 is way more harsh in mid/hi freq. I have an original 3000. Useful for some things ... but for vocals there's no question... 4033 delivers better results.
The 4033 just seems more natural sounding ... for lack of a better term. :)

I owned both of those simultaneously and compared them often. The 4033 had a little more crispness on the very high end...better for vocals maybe. The 3000 was a little more subdued in the very high end, but had a presence peak at about 8-10K and a dip at 2K, so it was a little more hollow sounding but still quite bright.
They were both so similar that I don't think you can go wrong with either. I like the construction and the shock mount of the 3000 better, but I think I did prefer the 4033 sound better.
It isn't even an chocolate/vanilla choice; it is a creamy-vanilla/french-vanilla type choice. :)

Peace,
Rick

c3000b

I have a C3000B but I dont think I'm real crazy about it. Ok for vocals but I did not like it for guitar the one time I used it. I am going to consider a couple of 4033 for a project I"m doing with a horn section. I'd try the 4033 first. Have not heard a bad thing "bout them yet.Jim

you guys are talking about THREE mics...

Not to discount anyone's experience and opinon but the C3000 and C3000B are noticeably different mics. Banjoal was asking about the C3000B compared to the 4033. Most of you are comparing the old C3000 to the 4033. The old C3000 had a rap for being bright and thin. AKG supposedly beefed up the low midrange on the new "B" version.
