ASPI converted to Standard PC mode (IRQ HELL)

Did some searching here, couldn't find much.

If I convert my computer from ASPI to Standard PC mode, what catastrophic events might I expect?
Other than trying to track down all of the install discs for software, to reinstall everything (good luck with N-tracks 3.3, ehh? )?
This and potentially losing all data due to having to reinstall windoze?

Any other lovelies I can loose sleep over?

I am in no way convinced that I have to do this.
My 1010lt is still on a virtual IRQ (18 I think), though it does not list any conflicts, nor does it list as sharing an IRQ

Don't worry about the virtual IRQ thing. Is it working ok??

My 3 Deltas are on 20, 21 & 22 but I have no problems recording 12 tracks at a time or streaming back 24

how old is your machine? These days they have ASPI figured out pretty well so modern machines rarely have that problem. What was your problem with it?

I can give you several good reasons on why u should not do it:

If its a P4 or later its probably something else and doing it wont help

Once you do it, there is no going back. You will be doing a fresh build to restore it.

I run my soundcard on IRQ 23 and do not have problems.

If you have not tried this yet, you can force the irq to assign to a particular PCI slot in your bios

I have looked for this in BIOS, but I cannot find it. I can't find anything concerning IRQ's in my BIOS !!! I found it immediately on this (my wifes) computer, but for the life of me can't find it in my BIOS.

Computer is a Dell 2350, AMD 2.2, Intel 845GL chipset. I'm not sure exactly how many years old it is. It was not new when I got it (refurb).

The standard PC mode sounded a little scary. Thanks for steering me away from that.

The problem I was having was extreme popping/skipping during playback. After a days worth of uninstalling/reinstalling, I came to the conclusion I cannot have my Turtle Beach video capture installed without coflicting with the 1010lt.

After the wife gets home from school I'm going down to play some more with it.
If I leave the children unattended, civil war is inevitable.

My understanding is ASPI and Standard PC Mode are the two ways which PC's might address IRQ assignment/etc

(IRQ is "interupt request", basically allowing "something" to communicate with the processor by "interupting" another "something" . )

Advanced Configuration Power Interface = ACPI. It allows windows to to automatically configure your hardware, rather than doing it manually, I think........ Messin' around with all that jazz is a big pain in the ass. Been there done it. In the end I got my 1010lt working by switching to standard and swapping pci slots but I did'nt exactly know what the hell I was doing so I won't ellaborate. I feel your pain Cellar!

Lemontree, what motherboard are you running and what devices do you have installed besides the 1010lt's?
