Want to buy 2 mics for vocal/acoustic guitar/electric guitar/ for some recordings at HOME and they are my christmas gifts for myself.

The budget is within US$250. Any suggestions? Need to have pre-amp or not? If yes, please recommend as well.

If you don't have a pre-amp or mixer you are gonna need one or two of those too, $88 for a single channel Studio Projects VTB-1 pre or $145~ for a two channel M-Audio DMP3, or yes for now I would let you use a $40 behringer mixer (make sure it has phantom power), but you would have to promise me for your birthday you will get a couple of pre-amps, then you could use the behringer mixer for all sorts of things, like a cheap headphone amp, a good door stop, experimental flying saucer off the top of the nearest 4 story building, or even a bath tub toy (make sure it isn't plug'd in children).

Look into the MXL 67i . It's got 2 capsules , one "warm" and one "bright" that you can switch between. Like 2 mic's in one and for $150 you would have $100 left to pick up a 604 !!! :D

Hey Mullin!
Soundcraft has a neat little mixer for $99! as opposed to the Behringer.
With the dual purpose V67i and this mixer you'd have 2 keepers!
However, I must ask, what are you recording too?????
If computer, you will need at minimum, a USB interface of some sort.

good suggestions here imho. other possibilities might include:
if you need an interface:
e-mu 0202 $130-- 2 i/o 24 bit 192 khz interface with two class a preamps
at 2020 $80 off ebay
matched set of msh mics (www.naiant.com) $44
that would put you a little over $250 with shipping

other pieces to possibly consider might be a shure sm57 or audix i-5 if electric guitar amp micing is going to be a priority, and as srr noted, you can get two decent starter preamps in a berhinger mixer (like the xenyx 802 for $60). the soundcraft mixer series that homestudioguy recommended is pretty good for the money-- i have a buddy who has the compact 10 (i believe hsg is referring to the compact 4) and he really digs it.

Apex 205 ribbon $83

Apex 210 ribbon $115

at fullcompass.com

i got a tascam us-122 usb interface already.

How about the following?

1. Audio Technica AT2020 $100
2. Projects Studio B1 $100
3. M-AUDIO - DMP3 $150

MXL 67i Try Fullcompass, they probably have it for $120-$135.
www.naiant.com MSH-1C Cardioid Condenser Microphone or if you prefer omni's MSH-1O Omnidirectional Condenser Microphone, $22, $22 X2 so $44+shipping.
Then get a Audix i5 or a SM57 $90~ try fullcompass for this one or haggle your way down at guitar center.

With those mics, you would have Vocals, Acoustic Guitar, and Electric Guitar covered pretty good. Stay with the pre amps that are built into the tascam for now, or that is what I would do, as I doubt the DMP3 is a huge leap and bound above what the Tascam serves up.
